My friend J is having some substantial surgery done up in Los Angeles early next week; she and her husband D came out this week to do the pre-op, then they drove down here to meet me in San Diego.

We met up at Stone Brewing, then went off to the San Marcos Brewing company for some lunch. When we returned, we got 3 3L (yes, 9 liters!) of Arrogant Bastard Ale, and a cute little 2L growler of their I.P.A.

From there, the lovely drive home through Friday afternoon rush hour, then hanging out at my place drinking our way through a fair number of “Smoky Indians” (one part Stone Smoked Porter to three parts I.P.A.). We grabbed dinner at South Beach, some of the best fish tacos in town.

We got back to my place and relaxed a bit, then I remembered that I’d been invited to a beach bonfire party a few streets down. After finding them and making sure the party was still going on, I dragged my friends over. A bit of fire juggling and beer drinking later, we called it a night.

The incoming tide, a full moon, torches in front of me; a bonfire on the beach behind me; old friends on one hand, new friends on the other. Not a bad way to end a day.
